How does it look folk poetry knitted? How can a sweater be a garment and a story at the same time?

Jenna Kostetin Neulottu Kalevala contains 18 knitting patterns inspired by the poems of the Kalevala, such as the Suolaulu shirt, the Joukahainen socks and the Pohjolan neito jacket. Their elaborate embroidery patterns are inspired by Finnish, Scandinavian and Baltic traditional knitting. The knitting shows Baltic Finnish mythical stories, ancient symbols, religious creatures and nature. At the same time, they offer a domestic equivalent to the highly popular Icelandic knitting.

All the knits in the book are knitted in one piece, and the embroidery knits only use two colors at a time – that's why they can also be done by a less experienced knitter. The instructions make versatile use of both thinner and thicker yarns, and the knitter is offered several yarn options.

Jenna Kostet is a writer and knitwear designer known for several hit knits, such as the Suolaulu shirt. She has also published several historical novels and children's books.
